Portfolio Rebalancing Calculator

Decision tool · portfolio allocation

Enter current holding values and target percentages. See exact sell-and-buy trades, or keep every holding and use new cash only. The cash-only result names its partial-allocation policy and shows the minimum cash for exact weights.

01 / Set the allocation

How may the holdings change?

Holdings and target weights

Values are current dollars; targets may use two decimals and must add to exactly 100%.

02 / Read the allocation

Additional cash for exact weights

$8,000.00

With $12,000.00 new cash and no sales, the exact target remains out of reach. $20,000.00 total new cash is the smallest exact cent-feasible contribution.

Example · no sales · partial allocation

The example uses entered values, not live holdings or prices. No trades are placed.

What the cash-only result means

When new cash cannot reach exact weights without selling, this calculator spreads the contribution across positive target-dollar gaps in proportion to those gaps. It never reduces a holding. Other partial-allocation policies are possible; the result shows the ending values and remaining difference from each target. The minimum exact-cash figure respects whole cents; a different contribution can still need cent rounding.

Sell-and-buy mode instead uses the entered total to compute target values and the corresponding trades. When a target value falls between cents, the displayed trades conserve the entered cash and may differ from the mathematical weights by less than a cent per holding.

This arithmetic uses only values and percentages you enter. It does not read accounts, look up prices, place trades, model taxes or fees, or recommend an investment. Values are held in this browser while the page is open.
